The Abrasive Wheels half-day training course begins with an introduction to the various types and characteristics of abrasive wheels, followed by an overview of the legislation and regulations governing their use, including the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 PUWER. We then delve into the safety aspects of using abrasive wheels, discussing hazards and precautions to prevent accidents. This is followed by instruction on proper handling and storage of abrasive wheels for longevity and safe use.
Participants will receive hands-on training on inspecting and testing abrasive wheels before use, as well as learning the correct methods for assembling, balancing, and dressing the wheels. The course concludes with a practical demonstration and participant practice session, allowing attendees to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned. The course duration is a half day, with ample time for questions and discussion.
Additional elements of the course may include a section on identifying and reporting defects in abrasive wheels, as well as proper personal protective equipment PPE to be worn when working with abrasive wheels. The course may also cover the importance of risk assessments and safe working practices when using abrasive wheels. Participants may also learn about the maintenance and care of equipment used with abrasive wheels, such as grinders and cut-off machines.
