Contact numbers and ways to get in touch will be provided.

Course Agenda

Venepuncture training courses typically begin with an introduction to the procedure and its importance in the medical field. This is followed by a discussion on patient identification and the importance of obtaining patient consent before proceeding with the procedure. A professional approach to the entire process is emphasized, along with basic universal precautions to ensure safety for both the patient and the healthcare professional.

The course then moves on to the practical aspects of venepuncture, starting with selecting the appropriate site for the procedure. The order of draw for different types of specimens is also covered, along with post-procedure care for the patient. Special consideration is given to specimen labelling and handling, as well as troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques in case of any issues during the procedure.

To ensure practical competency, participants are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a simulated practical workstation. This is followed by a practical assessment to evaluate their proficiency in performing venepuncture. The course also covers the ethical and legal responsibilities of healthcare professionals when performing this procedure. Finally, a competency framework and theory test are administered to assess the participants understanding and readiness to perform venepuncture in a clinical setting.
