Course Agenda

In this Tracheostomy training course, participants will learn about the latest guidelines and best practices for providing care and treatment. They will also be introduced to the different types of tubes used in tracheostomies and how to properly manage them. Communication and swallowing techniques will also be covered to ensure effective patient care. ##$$##Risk assessment is a crucial aspect of tracheostomy care, and this course will provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct thorough assessments. Nursing considerations specific to tracheostomy patients will also be discussed, along with proper techniques for removing and changing the tube. Dressing changes and suctioning will also be covered in detail. ##$$##In the event of an emergency, it is important to know how to respond and provide care for a patient with a tracheostomy. This course will cover emergency procedures and how to handle humidification for patients with a tracheostomy. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical workstation and undergo a simulated practical assessment. ##$$##Along with the practical aspects of tracheostomy care, this course will also cover the ethical and legal responsibilities that come with managing patients with a tracheostomy. A competency framework and theory test will also be included to ensure participants have a thorough understanding of the course material. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide the best possible care for patients with a tracheostomy.

More Information

This course will be delivered by a variety of teaching methods including: presentation; case studies; small group discussions & individual work.Please note: Competency is achieved in the workplace following the training using a On completion delegates will be able to demonstrate much improved awareness of tracheostomy, the causes, needs and requirements. They will understand the common reason for tracheostomy and the various types of tracheostomy. Staff will have a great understanding of the common complication in relation to tracheostomy and the corrrect course of action to follow. Staff will undertake a practical session on changing the dressing, suctioning the patient, inner cannula change and full tube change using our equipment and training mannequins. During the practical session delegates will have the opportunity to practise their day to day tasks working around the tracheostomy so they can work confidently without risk.
