Accreditation & Next Steps

Frequently Asked Questions

Most commonly asked Schools First Aid questions:

The course requires a minimum of 18 hours of guided learning, usually delivered over three consecutive days. Some providers split the training across evenings or weekends while still meeting the required contact time.

Delegates learn the full first aid syllabus including primary assessment, CPR for adults, children and infants, AED use, choking, bleeding control, fractures, head injuries, anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, seizures and environmental emergencies. The course also covers record keeping and communication with parents and emergency services.

No previous experience is required. The course is designed for people who may never have used first aid skills before as well as those who want to update or refresh existing knowledge.

Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Instructors observe practical skills on manikins and in scenario exercises, and delegates complete a short written test covering the key knowledge areas. There is no separate final exam.

On successful completion you receive a First Aid at Work certificate. This meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and is recognised across the UK.

The certificate is valid for three years from the date of issue. You must complete a requalification course before the expiry date to keep the qualification current.

The three-day course is the full qualification required when a school risk assessment identifies the need for first aiders trained to First Aid at Work level. Some settings also run the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course for lower-risk environments or as an introduction.

You do not need to bring any equipment. All training materials, manikins and first aid supplies are provided. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based practical work.

Yes. Many schools arrange for the training to take place on site so that staff can practise with the actual first aid kits and locations they will use in an emergency.

This course covers first aid for adults, children and infants and meets workplace first aid regulations. Paediatric first aid courses focus exclusively on children and babies and are often required in early years settings under the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

Yes. The course includes training on automated external defibrillators and gives delegates the opportunity to practise attaching pads and following the device prompts on training units.

Full attendance is required to complete the qualification. If you miss a session, you will normally need to attend another course or make up the missed time with an instructor before a certificate can be issued.

Prices per person typically start at £155. Discounts available for multi person or group bookings (depending upon location)
